Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Hasaacas Ladies, kicked off their 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers campaign with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Omnisports Etincelle of Burkina Faso on Sunday.
The match was played at the Stade de la Paix de Bouake, and it saw the Ghanaian side, participating in the competition for the second time, struggling to gain control of the game in the first hour. Omnisports Etincelle dominated possession and applied constant pressure, forcing Hasaacas Ladies to defend deep.
Goalkeeper Grace Banwaa was the star of the show for the Ghanaian team, making two crucial saves in both halves to keep the Burkinabe side at bay. Her impressive performance ensured that the game remained level and set the tone for Hasaacas Ladies’ comeback.
After the introduction of midfielder Fidous Yakubu, Hasaacas showed more intent in attack, but their efforts fell short of breaking the deadlock.
Despite not scoring, Hasaacas Ladies can take heart from their improved performance compared to their last appearance in the qualifiers three years ago, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria’s River Angels.
With this result behind them, Hasaacas Ladies will shift their focus to their next group match, where they will face Nigeria’s Edo Queens.
