Ghanaian midfielder Forson Amankwah’s debut for Norwich City ended in disappointment as his team faced a 2-0 defeat against Oxford United in the English Championship opener.
Amankwah, who joined Norwich City last Friday from Red Bull Salzburg on a four-year deal with an option for an additional year, came on as a substitute for Liam Gibbs at the start of the second half. Despite his introduction, Norwich could not reverse the scoreline at the Kassam Stadium.
Oxford United took the lead in the 28th minute with a goal from Mark Harris and maintained their advantage through halftime. In the second half, Cameron Brannagan scored the second goal for Oxford, securing their victory.
Though Amankwah showed some promising moments during his appearance, he was unable to turn the tide for Norwich. The Ghanaian midfielder had only joined the team the day before the match and had not yet completed a full training session with his new club.
Looking ahead, Amankwah will aim to make a significant impact in Norwich City’s 2024/25 Championship campaign. Having already debuted for the Black Stars, where he played against Nigeria and Uganda in March 2024, he will be eager to solidify his place in the national team and continue his development with Norwich.
