Charlton Athletic midfielder, Freda Ayisi, made her debut for the Black Queens on Friday, February 23, 2024, in an Olympic qualifier against the Copper Queens of Zambia.
The highly anticipated match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, marked Ayisi’s inaugural appearance for her national team as she secured a spot in coach Nora Hauptle’s starting lineup.
Despite a spirited effort from the Black Queens, they suffered a narrow 1-0 home defeat to the Copper Queens, with Rechael Kundananji netting the decisive goal in the first half. Now, Ghana requires an aggregate victory over their opponents to secure qualification for Paris 2024.
Ayisi, aged 29, showcased her impressive skills to the delight of fans during her 46-minute spell on the pitch before being substituted by Sherifatu Sumaila at the start of the second half.
As the Black Queens prepare to depart Ghana for Lusaka on Sunday, Ayisi is expected to play a pivotal role in their quest to overturn the result and secure qualification, demonstrating her potential to contribute significantly to the team’s success on the international stage.
