Nations FC captain Razak Simpson delivered an impressive performance on his debut for the Black Stars, but Ghana was held to a 1-1 draw against Angola in a crucial match-day five fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Estádio 11 de Novembro.
The 26-year-old defender earned his first call-up last week, one of only three local players included in Otto Addo’s squad alongside Isaac Afful and Asante Kotoko’s Emmanuel Antwi. His standout performances during training secured him a starting spot, and he played the full 90 minutes, displaying composure and resilience throughout.
The Black Stars took an early lead in the 17th minute through Jordan Ayew’s stunning free kick from 35 yards, showcasing his trademark precision. However, Angola equalized in the 64th minute when substitute Zini latched onto a Milson cross to beat goalkeeper Abdul Manaf Nurudeen.
Despite Ghana’s efforts to reclaim the lead, the result ultimately ended their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON, marking the nation’s first absence from the tournament since 2004.
The Black Stars will wrap up their Group F campaign against Niger on Monday, November 18, at the Ohene Gyan Stadium in Accra.
