Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Dr. Randy Abbey, has underlined the significance of the Black Stars’ upcoming match against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The crucial Group F encounter is set for Friday, October 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Ghana in desperate need of a win after a shaky start to the qualifiers. The Black Stars suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola in their opener and then squandered a first-half lead to draw 1-1 against Niger.
“It’s a must-win game. We have to do everything we can to secure victory because we understand the consequences if we don’t,” Dr. Abbey said in an interview on Metro TV. “Once we win, we can then focus on the subsequent matches.”
He expressed relief that the game would take place in Ghana following a conditional approval by CAF, which requires some additional preparations at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“CAF has given us conditional approval to play the game here, and we need to address certain issues before then. We are relieved to be playing at home, and we’re preparing to take all three points,” Dr. Abbey added.
After the home fixture, Ghana will travel to Libya for the return leg on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium. Currently, the Black Stars are third in Group F with just one point, trailing Angola by five points and Sudan by two.
