Head coach of Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team, James Kwesi Appiah, has commended his team’s performance following their 1-0 victory over Niger, but he remains aware of the challenges ahead in their quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The match, held in South Sudan due to ongoing conflict in Sudan, saw the Falcons of Jediane take an early lead in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers. Bakr Issa’s decisive goal in the 51st minute secured the win for Sudan.
Despite the triumph, Appiah emphasized that there is still a significant journey ahead for his team. Speaking to CECAFA, the former Black Stars head coach expressed gratitude to his players for their efforts and focused on the challenges that remain.
“I thank the players for working hard to get the three points as we started the qualifiers. There is still a lot of work to be done because we have many more matches to be played in the group,” Appiah said.
Sudan is set to face Angola on Monday, September 9, at 21:00 GMT. Meanwhile, Ghana will play Angola in their Group F opener at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 at 16:00 GMT.
Under Appiah’s guidance, Sudan also leads Group B in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
