Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has obtained his visa to enter Canada following a court decision handed down this Tuesday, June 16, in Ottawa.
Initially, Canadian immigration authorities had denied his entry request due to ongoing legal proceedings against him in the United Kingdom. In response, Ghanaian officials launched legal proceedings to challenge the decision.
A favorable decision after judicial intervention
An Ottawa court reviewed the case and overturned the initial refusal. This ruling now allows the former Arsenal midfielder to officially join the Ghana squad in Toronto.

The situation had become a major talking point just hours before the Black Stars’ opening match of the tournament. The absence of Thomas Partey would have been a significant blow for the coach and his teammates.
Available against Panama?
Thanks to this timely green light, Thomas Partey is now cleared to enter Canada and could be available for the clash against Panama, scheduled for Wednesday as part of the opening day of World Cup 2026. However, his participation will depend on his arrival and the decisions of Ghana’s technical staff.
