Black Starlets assistant coach Nana Kweku Agyemang has boldly declared that Ghana will not merely participate at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but will aim to win the tournament outright.
The Black Starlets are gearing up for the continental showpiece, scheduled to take place in Morocco from April 25 to May 15, 2026, marking Ghana’s return to the competition after a nine-year absence.
Despite a 2-1 friendly defeat to Ghana Premier League side Heart of Lions FC at the Accra Sports Stadium, Agyemang insisted the result does not derail the team’s preparations.
Speaking after the match, he expressed confidence in the technical team led by Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum, stressing that the squad is steadily building toward a strong tournament campaign.
“We are not just going to participate; we are going to win the AFCON,” Agyemang said.
“We know that we have what it takes as a technical team and the players are working hard to win.”
He added that the series of preparatory matches are crucial in testing the players’ readiness against stronger senior opposition, helping to sharpen their resilience ahead of the competition.
The Starlets continue their intensive buildup as they target a strong return to the continental stage in Morocco 2026.
