President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed he will be present at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, when the Black Stars face Chad in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Mahama made this announcement on Wednesday during a visit to the team’s training session, where he encouraged the players ahead of the crucial fixture.
“I’ll take time off and watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer, I will brave it. They say I should eat before I go and sit down,” Mahama remarked. “My hope is that you will justify my decision to come and watch. The whole of Ghana is behind you, and I’m confident you can make it.”
The former president also urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the management committee to continue working closely with the team to create the right environment for success.
“We will work together to build an atmosphere that supports not just the Black Stars, but all our junior national teams as well,” he added.
Ghana, currently third in Group I with nine points, is aiming for maximum points against Chad and Madagascar (March 24 in Morocco) to boost their qualification hopes. After missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Black Stars are determined to strengthen their position as they chase a fifth World Cup appearance in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
