Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed strong belief in Ghana’s ability to compete at the highest level ahead of their decisive FIFA World Cup Group L encounter against England, insisting the team is focused and confident after their winning start to the tournament.

Ghana head into Tuesday’s highly anticipated clash on a high following Caleb Yirenkyi’s dramatic stoppage-time goal that secured a 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening match.

Speaking to Ghanafa.org, Ayew stressed the importance of maintaining focus and approaching the remainder of the group stage one game at a time as the Black Stars continue their quest for qualification.

“We have two important games left. We take it game by game,” Ayew said.

“We are focused on getting the three points in the next match, and after that we will think about the last game.”

England, meanwhile, began their campaign with an entertaining 4-2 win over Croatia and will book their place in the knockout stage with another victory. Ghana also understand that a positive result would significantly strengthen their chances of advancing to the Round of 32 ahead of their final group fixture.

Despite acknowledging the strength of the opposition, Ayew remained confident that Ghana can rise to the occasion against one of the tournament favourites.

“It’s always difficult playing at the World Cup. There are no easy games, but we believe in ourselves, and we feel that anything is possible,” he added.

A win for Ghana would not only boost their chances of progression but also extend their strong record of never losing their second group-stage match at a FIFA World Cup.

With morale high following the Panama victory, Ayew believes the Black Stars are prepared for another major test as they aim to take a significant step toward the knockout stages.
