Ghana will miss out on the World Cup with a Milovan Rajevac type of appointment – Herbert Mensah

Former Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Herbert Mensah, says Ghana risks missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup should the Ghana Football Association appoint a Milovan Rajevac type of coach.

The Black Stars are without a head coach following the dismissal of the Serbian after a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Cameroon.

Ghana exited the competition in the group stage without a win and with just one, making it their worst performance in the continental showpiece.

Speaking to reporters, the former Kotoko CEO believes things need to be done right if Ghana are to book a spot in the World Cup later this year.

“Milo’s comments after [the AFCON], I listened, I watched and I thought it was a good job at my 60s. People have got to understand that the right thing needs to be done.

“Those who are trying to cover up what is the biggest national disaster [group stage exit] since May 9, in my view, should be ashamed of themselves. We need to look and build and say ‘this was a ‘disaster’. We have Nigeria next and we have a country that traditionally we beat or frustrate.

“Do we have what it takes to beat Nigeria? I think we do. Because Nigeria played better than Ghana but they were found wanting technically when it counted. The same way we were playing our football, we were not playing north African structured football.

“If they appoint a good coach…and we if we think the Milo type is for Ghana, then we are out of the World,” he concluded.

Assistant coach for Borussia Dortmund, Otto Addo and former Norwich City boss, Chris Hughton have heavily been linked with the vacant Black Stars job ahead of the World Cup play-off.
