National football team coach Djamel Belmadi has remained evasive about his future at the helm of the Algeria national team following the failure to lead The Greens to qualify to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 2019 Champions of Africa conceded defeat on Tuesday evening against Cameroon (1-2 after extra time) at the Mustapha-Tchaker stadium in Blida during the second leg of the play – offs.

“The day when I feel that I will no longer be useful for my country, I will retire quietly. I will reflect properly in the days to come, the most important thing is that this national team will be strong in the coming years. stages through which we have gone must strengthen us.” Belmadi said.

“We just have to continue to work and improve what has not worked in the organization of this team, of this Federation”, indicated Belmadi in a post-match press conference. .

Winner in the first leg last Friday in Douala (1-0), the national team came up against a team from Cameroon on Tuesday evening, which snatched their qualification at the last second of extra time.

The goals of the match were scored by Choupo-Moting (22nd minute) and Toko Ekambi (120th+4 minutes) for Cameroon and by Ahmed Touba (119th) for Algeria.

“We are going to go through very difficult days, in the days and months to come, it may last for a while. We will have to get up, it is the history of football. Algeria remains a great footballing nation , there are still beautiful things to do in the future, with or without me. I am not here to hang a throne, and not move. I have never taken this function in this way”, he added.

And to continue: “There are chances that I will please many people, among certain journalists, who preach for certain parishes, who work for certain lobbies, and to whom I certainly harmed”.

Belmadi felt that “functioning in this national team has been in difficulty in recent years. Obviously, I will be able to take my responsibilities on the stroke of sadness, to have more time to be sure that this selection always works so that it can progress” he said.

The national coach who remains on two failures, after an elimination in the first round of the last AFCON in Cameroon, indicated that he will make his assessment soon.

“I arrived when the national team was in great difficulty. We managed to climb where we were close to a World Cup. There is a feeling of a job that has been done well. We cannot to miss out on an objective which is to qualify for the World Cup. Of course, “I will take stock”, he concluded.

As a reminder, Belmadi had joined Algeria in August 2018, in replacement of Rabah Madjer, with the main objective of qualifying the “Greens” for the 2022 World Cup, an objective unfortunately not achieved. P
