Joseph Yaw Adu, a board member of Asante Kotoko, has dismissed claims that he has a personal agenda against the club’s CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah.
The CEO has faced criticism due to the team’s inconsistent performances, which included being eliminated from the Champions League preliminary round and currently sitting in 5th place on the Ghana Premier League table.
Nana Yaw Amponsah was summoned by the board after the team’s Burkinabe trainer, Seydou Zerbo, was fired without their knowledge, and there has been uncertainty about Amponsah’s future following his summoning by the board.
However, Adu clarified in an interview that the board does not have an agenda against the CEO and that they are only seeking explanations regarding management and technical matters.
“We can’t sit ideal if things are not moving as expected. Management are in charge of both resources and technical matters, coaches report to management and not board. So, Nana Yaw Amponsah being the head of management has to explain things to us”
“There is a speculation the board has an agenda against the CEO but that is a fallacy” he said.
Reports have emerged suggesting that Amponsah’s three-year term, which ends this year, will not be extended.
Nana Yaw Amponsah, who ran for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in 2019, was appointed as Asante Kotoko’s CEO in August 2020.
