Stephen Appiah bemoans current state of Ghana football

Stephen Appiah, the ex-captain of the Black Stars, expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration of football in Ghana and believes that it is high time for former footballers to get involved in the management of the sport.

The 42-year-old is particularly concerned about the declining performance of the national teams, especially after the Black Stars exited in the first round of their last two international tournaments.

Appiah thinks that involving football legends in the running of the game is crucial for its success in Ghana. He emphasized that football is best run by footballers and not necessarily by people with English grammar proficiency.

According to him, the wisdom gained from years of experience is what matters most.

“It’s sad because the contacts that we have and the people we can pick phones and call, when I mention names, you will be shocked,” he said on Sompa TV.

“At times we don’t get the chance, I mean the legends, former players, we don’t get the chance. “I have learnt something, football is run by footballers, it is not about English or the grammar. It is all about the wisdom.

“When I went to Italy, I didn’t understand Italian but when the coach communicates I get it.”

Appiah previously served as the Black Stars team manager during Kwesi Appiah’s last stint as coach of the team.
