Caleb Ekuban, the Ghanaian football player, has helped secure Italian Serie A promotion for Genoa for the upcoming season.

The team has returned to Serie A after only one year in the second division, joining Frosinone in the step up from Serie B.

To secure automatic promotion as one of the top two, the Grifone needed to achieve a better result than Bari, and they defeated Ascoli 2-1 at Marassi with goals from Mattia Bani and Milan Badelj. Bari, on the other hand, were held to a 1-1 draw in Modena.

Genoa, founded in September 1893, is the oldest football club in Italy and won nine titles before Serie A became the current format. Last season, they were relegated in penultimate place after a tumultuous campaign that saw them taken over by American investors 777 Partners.

Ekuban contributed to Genoa’s win over Ascoli by featuring in the last thirteen minutes of the match after coming off the bench. This season, he has scored one goal and provided two assists in 12 league matches for Genoa.
