Ghana Premier League side, Medeama SC has been handed a transfer ban by FIFA, which means they will be unable to register new players if they emerge as champions this season.
This comes as a result of a breach of contract with former player Amed ‘Simba’ Toure, as confirmed by AshesGyamera.com.
Amed Toure, 36 years old, signed a two-year contract with Medeama in 2021 after his spell with Guinean top-flight side AS Kaloum. However, he reported the club to FIFA in July 2022, citing unfair treatment and other issues.
In January 2023, FIFA ordered Medeama SC to pay GHS101,500 to Amed Toure for wrongfully terminating his contract. Unfortunately, the Tarkwa-based club failed to meet the payment deadline, leading to the imposition of the transfer ban.
A statement from FIFA, obtained by AshesGyamera.com, stated, “We take due note that in its correspondence, the creditor informs us that the respondent, the club Medeama SC, has not complied with its financial obligations in accordance with the decision of FIFA. In this regard, we wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by FIFA as of today.”
The statement further added, “Moreover and in accordance with the aforementioned decision, the respondent’s member association (Ghana FA) is requested to immediately implement on the respondent, the club Medeama SC, a ban from registering new players at the national level.”
Currently, Medeama occupies the second position in the Ghana Premier League standings, trailing Aduana Stars by only two points. If they win the league title, they will be unable to reinforce their squad with new players for the CAF Champions League unless FIFA lifts the imposed ban.
