Yusif Basigi attributes recent poor Ghana national teams performance to inadequate preparation

Yusif Basigi, the head coach of Ghana’s Black Princesses, has attributed the poor performances of Ghana’s national teams in major competitions to inadequate preparations.

In the past two years, Ghana’s national teams have struggled to make a mark in major tournaments, with the latest disappointment being the early exit of the Black Meteors at the group stage of the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Morocco.

Coach Basigi believes that proper preparations at the foundational level are crucial for the national teams to perform well in major competitions. He emphasizes the need for adequate planning and time, particularly for women’s teams, as their development takes time compared to their male counterparts.

In an interview on Happy FM, Coach Basigi revealed that the Senior National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, is undergoing thorough preparations for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco 2024.

“What is important is, we prepare adequately with our youth teams so that transition of these players into the senior national teams would be smooth. These things also take time and proper planning. Especially with women, they are not like the men who can grasp things much quicker so their development take time,” Coach Basigi said in an interview on Happy FM.

The upcoming tournament holds great significance for the Black Queens as they aim to bounce back from their disappointing early exit in the previous edition.

In the previous tournament, they were eliminated by their arch-rivals, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline in favor of the Nigerian side.
