2026 World Cup Q: Ghana present opportunity to seek revenge against Comoros

Ghana’s upcoming encounter with Comoros in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup presents a golden opportunity for redemption and revenge.

The draw held on July 13, 2023, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, unveiled Comoros as one of the opponents that Ghana will face on their quest for World Cup qualification.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) saw Ghana narrowly miss out on advancing from the group stage. Despite a loss to Morocco and a 1-1 draw with Gabon in their opening matches, the Black Stars came agonizingly close to progressing further. However, their hopes were dashed.

In a surprising turn of events, Comoros, often underrated, capitalized on Ghana’s numerical disadvantage following Andre Ayew’s red card and secured a 3-2 victory. Although Alexander Djiku and Richmond Boakye Yiadom managed to restore parity with their goals, Comoros ultimately emerged triumphant.

Fortunately, Ghana now has an opportunity to face Comoros again and seek redemption in their quest for a fifth World Cup appearance. The Black Stars have previously participated in the World Cup in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, showcasing their footballing prowess on the global stage.

Group E of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers will also see Ghana compete against Madagascar and the Central African Republic. Additionally, the Black Stars will face formidable challenges from Mali and Chad, making the qualifying campaign highly competitive.

In their most recent World Cup appearance, Ghana’s journey was cut short in the group stage following a heartbreaking defeat to Uruguay in the knockout stage of the competition.

Now, with the opportunity for redemption and the chance to avenge their past disappointments, Ghana aims to make a resounding comeback and secure their spot in the prestigious 2026 World Cup.
