Kudjoe Fianoo, the Chairman of the Ghana League Club Association, has confirmed that Bibiani GoldStars will replace Asante Kotoko in this year’s GHALCA Top four tournament.

Asante Kotoko withdrew from the competition due to issues surrounding the management of the club, as stated by GHALCA President Kodjoe Fianoo in a recent interview.

He assured that the decision was not aimed at sabotaging the tournament but was a genuine request from the club, which GHALCA accepted.

“Yes, it is no more a rumour, we received an official letter from Kotoko yesterday which stated that they can’t participate in the tournament and as we are all aware of the current situation of Kotoko, it’s not a deliberate decision to sabotage the tournament but a genuine one and we have accepted their request,” he told Happy FM.

Following Asante Kotoko’s withdrawal, Bibiani GoldStars has been selected as their replacement. Additionally, Dreams FC, who will represent Ghana in the upcoming CAF Confederations Cup, declined the invitation to participate in the competition.

With these changes, the participating teams in this year’s Top four tournament will be Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, Bechem United, and Bibiani GoldStars.

The preseason tournament, scheduled to be played from August 6 to August 13 at the Baba Yara Stadium, serves as a preparatory ground for the participating teams ahead of the new football season.

In the previous edition, Great Olympics emerged as champions after defeating Bechem United 2-0 in the final.
