Leonard Moffat, a former goalkeeper renowned in the Ghanaian football scene of the 1990s, has unveiled the reason behind his departure from his club – his refusal to engage in the use of ‘juju’ during matches.
Moffat, a prominent figure who represented Dawu Youngsters, Great Olympics, and Hearts of Oak, disclosed that his exit from Hearts of Oak was a result of his steadfast commitment to his Christian faith and his firm stance against the practice of ‘juju’ within the team.
He further revealed that he actively discouraged fellow players from resorting to such rituals.
In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, the former Ghanaian international revealed, “Hearts of Oak parted ways with me because they gave me ‘juju’ and I discarded it in the washing room during a game in Algeria.
“We suffered a 3-1 loss in Algeria, but managed a 2-1 victory in Accra. I was the team captain and goalkeeper during the defeat in Algeria.
“When I was offered the ‘juju’ to distribute among the players, I chose to discard it in the washing room. Upon returning to Accra, Hearts of Oak informed me that they no longer required my services, attributing the defeat to my actions.”
