Nigeria’s head coach, Jose Peseiro, has revealed his provisional list of players for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The extensive pool includes three home-based players and a diverse array of foreign-based professionals, with only one playing within Africa.
Leading the cast of familiar faces is Victor Osimhen, the recently crowned African Footballer of the Year. The list also features seasoned players like Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Ahmed Musa, and Kenneth Omeruo, the only two players in the squad with previous AFCON victories.
The provisional squad showcases emerging talents with zero to three caps, including Belgium-based players Alhassan Yusuf and Jordan Torunarigha. The goalkeeping department also includes five keepers, alongside Odinaka Francis Uzoho.
Peseiro has until January 3, 2024, eleven days before Nigeria’s opening game against Equatorial Guinea, to finalize his squad, which cannot exceed twenty-seven players for the tournament.
