Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, has made the decision to proceed to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) without midfield stalwart Thomas Partey.
The Arsenal midfielder, who has been sidelined due to injury for an extended period, has been omitted from the final Black Stars squad for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
Despite Thomas Partey’s recent return to training, the coach believes he has not yet attained peak fitness to participate in competitive matches. With uncertainty surrounding Partey’s readiness, Chris Hughton opted to exclude him from the final squad.
In lieu of Thomas Partey, Coach Hughton has included Abdul Salis Samid, Baba Iddrisu, Majeed Ashimeru, Elisha Owusu, and Richmond Lamptey in the finalized squad. Richmond Lamptey, a standout performer in the Ghana Premier League, is joined by two other talents from Medeama SC – defender Abdul Hamidu Fatawu and striker Jonathan Sowah.
The Black Stars will officially commence their camp tomorrow, based in Kumasi, as they intensify preparations for the AFCON 2023 tournament.
The omission of Thomas Partey presents an opportunity for the selected midfielders to showcase their prowess and contribute to Ghana’s campaign in the prestigious competition.
