The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently facing a challenging task as they endeavor to find a new coach for the Black Stars within less than three weeks. Frederick Acheampong, a member of the executive council, shared insights into this quest, expressing that the two-time AFCON winner, Herve Renard, is their preferred choice. However, financial limitations may pose a hurdle in securing Renard for the job.

Acheampong revealed that the GFA had approached Renard prior to the World Cup, during his tenure with Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, the association couldn’t afford his wages at that time, leading them to appoint Milovan Rajevic instead. Despite this, Renard has consistently shown interest in coaching Ghana, making him the primary focus for the GFA.

The deadline for interested coach applicants is set for February 2, 2024. The responsibility of finding a suitable replacement for the dismissed Chris Hughton falls on a five-member committee, spearheaded by GFA Vice President Mark Addo. This committee is dedicated to identifying the right candidate to steer the restructuring of the Black Stars following their disappointing performance at AFCON 2023.

While Herve Renard stands out as the top choice, the GFA is actively exploring alternative options within their financial constraints. The ultimate goal is to secure a coach who can guide the team to success and reinstate its former glory on the international football stage. The association remains committed to making a thoughtful decision that aligns with both their aspirations and budgetary considerations.

Acheampong acknowledged the challenges, stating, “We face financial constraints, but we are determined to make the best choice for the Black Stars.” The association recognizes the significance of this decision and the impact it will have on the future of Ghanaian football.

In the pursuit of a suitable coach, the GFA emphasizes the need to balance financial considerations with the desire for excellence. The chosen coach will play a crucial role in leading the Black Stars through a period of restructuring and revitalization.

Mark Addo, leading the committee, emphasized, “Our aim is to bring in a coach who can inspire the players and rejuvenate the team. We are considering all possibilities within our budget.”

The February 2 deadline looms large, intensifying the committee’s efforts to review applications and make a well-informed decision. Acheampong reiterated the urgency, saying, “Time is of the essence, and we are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition.”

As the GFA navigates this critical decision-making process, they remain committed to transparency. Acheampong stated, “We want the public to know that we are conducting a thorough and transparent selection process to find the best fit for the Black Stars.”

The disappointment of AFCON 2023 still lingers, adding a sense of urgency to the GFA’s mission. The association recognizes the importance of instilling new energy and vision into the Black Stars to reclaim their status as a formidable force in African football.

While financial constraints pose challenges, Acheampong expressed optimism, saying, “We are exploring creative solutions to secure the best coach for the job. Our priority is the success and progress of the Black Stars.”

As the search for a new coach unfolds, the GFA remains hopeful that the chosen candidate will bring fresh perspectives and strategies to elevate the Black Stars to greater heights. The commitment to restoring the team’s former glory is unwavering, and every effort is being made to ensure a positive outcome within the stipulated timeframe.
