Nigeria’s hopes for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against South Africa have been cast into uncertainty as African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, faces doubts over his participation due to a stomach complaint, as confirmed by officials.
The 25-year-old striker, who has been instrumental for Nigeria throughout the tournament, did not travel with the squad from Abidjan, where they secured a victory against Angola in the quarter-finals, to Bouake, the venue for Wednesday’s semi-final clash.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Football Federation, Osimhen is under close observation by team medics, with one member of the medical staff remaining in Abidjan to monitor his condition. His potential inclusion in the squad for the semi-final depends on medical clearance by the following morning, with hopes that he may join the team before 5 p.m.
