Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, has urged stakeholders to devise a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges facing football in the country.
His remarks came during the first meeting of the fourth session of Parliament, following Ghana’s disappointing early exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
Bagbin emphasized the significance of the Black Stars, highlighting their role as a symbol of national pride, unity, and resilience.
“The Black Stars and their handlers must know that they represent more than just a football team. They are a symbol of our national pride, cohesion and resilience. They must therefore endeavor to rise from the ashes of these setbacks and demonstrate to the world the true power of Ghana’s football,” he said.
He called upon the team and its management to rebound from recent setbacks and showcase Ghana’s football prowess to the world.
“It is high time we huddle together to discuss the current state of Ghana’s football and consider a comprehensive strategy for the future. Parliament will appreciate an opportunity to work with other stakeholders towards this common goal.”
Ghana’s disappointing AFCON campaign saw them lose 1-2 to Cape Verde and draw 2-2 with both Mozambique and Egypt, resulting in their failure to advance beyond the group stage for the second consecutive edition of the tournament.
