Amidst swirling rumors, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has refuted recent claims suggesting that an offer has been extended to coach Amir Abdou for the role of head coach of the Black Stars.
In a clarifying interview with Akoma FM on Wednesday, February 7, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo dismissed the circulating reports, asserting that no formal approach or offer has been made to Amir Abdou.
Contrary to speculations, reports had surfaced alleging that the GFA had proposed a monthly salary of $45,000 to entice Coach Amir Abdou to take charge of the national team.
However, Prosper Harrison Addo categorically denied these assertions, countering, “It’s never true that Ghana has approached Amir Abdou for the Black Stars job. How much did we (Ghana) pay to Akwasi Appiah and Chris Hughton to think of paying Amir Abdou $45,000.”
Following the departure of Chris Hughton following Ghana’s underwhelming performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the GFA is actively seeking a new head coach.
With reportedly over 600 coaches having applied for the vacant position, the association is diligently reviewing applications and conducting interviews as part of the rigorous selection process.
