According to Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, the GFA is poised to initiate a reset following the Black Stars’ lackluster showing at the AFCON 2023 tournament.
The team’s inability to secure a single victory and subsequent premature exit from the competition has triggered widespread criticism and prompted calls for reform within the organization.
Speaking at the GFA Meet the Press event on Wednesday, Abbey acknowledged that all parties involved in the team’s preparation and participation have accepted responsibility for the unsatisfactory results.
This includes the coaching staff, players, and the GFA itself, which has issued apologies and pledged to implement measures to prevent a recurrence of such disappointing outcomes.
In moving forward, Abbey disclosed that the technical team has been dissolved, and the GFA is actively exploring avenues for a fresh start.
“Every stakeholder, including the coaching staff, players, and the FA, has acknowledged their roles in this outcome. The FA has taken responsibility and committed to preventing similar occurrences in the future,” stated Abbey during the GFA Meet the Press event on Wednesday.
He further revealed, “The technical team has been disbanded, and we are now in the process of rebooting.”
Already, the GFA has relieved coach Chris Hughton of his duties and is in search of a new head coach for the senior national team as part of its reset strategy.
