Former Black Stars player Laryea Kingston has disclosed that he has let go of any bitterness towards the national team, despite missing out on opportunities to represent Ghana at the World Cup.
The 43-year-old, who earned 42 caps for the Black Stars, was twice excluded from Ghana’s World Cup squads. In 2006, he was omitted due to a suspension that would have made him unavailable for the first match.
Similarly, in 2010, he was initially included in the provisional squad but was later dropped by coach Milovan Rajevac.
Unlike some former players who harbor resentment for how they were treated, Kingston has chosen to move past his disappointments.
Reflecting on his journey, he stated, “Black Stars have hurt a lot of former players. A lot of former players leave the national team with anger. Myself, what they did to me for so many years, I never supported the Black Stars, but just recently I sat down and said it’s over, let me focus.”
Currently serving as the assistant coach of the Black Starlets, Kingston has expressed his willingness to coach the senior national team if given the opportunity. “Of course, I will accept and do it easy,” he affirmed, emphasizing his readiness for the role. He added, “I know the level at which I am now.”
