‘GFA has no idea what #SaveGhanafootball conveners demonstrated against’ – EXCO member Oduro Sarfo

Nana Oduro Sarfo, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has minimized the significance of the SaveGhanaFootball Demonstration held on February 14.

The demonstration, led by prominent journalists including Veronica Commey, Saddick Adams, and Nana Yaw Kessie, drew thousands of football enthusiasts expressing frustration over the dismal state of Ghana football, particularly following the national team’s early exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Ghana’s failure to advance past the group stage for the second consecutive AFCON edition underscores a concerning decline in the country’s football performance in recent years.

While acknowledging the demonstrators’ right to protest, Nana Oduro Sarfo highlighted procedural concerns, stating, “It is their right to demonstrate but sometimes I find it very strange when we don’t follow the laid-down procedure.”

He further emphasized that the GFA has not received any formal petition from the demonstrators, leaving uncertainties about the specific grievances aired during the protest.

“As I speak to you, the GFA has no idea what they’ve demonstrated against because…GFA did not get any petition from the demonstrators. So as of now, we don’t know what they actually demonstrated against,” Oduro Sarfo remarked in an interview with Citi Sports.
