Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil has touched down in Los Angeles in anticipation of his imminent transfer to Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy.
The 26-year-old, who currently plies his trade with Belgian giants KRC Genk, is scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Friday before finalizing a lucrative four-year deal reportedly valued at around 8 million Euros.
Paintsil’s arrival marks the end of his impressive six-year stint with KRC Genk, where he played a pivotal role in securing the league title once. With notable contributions over the past seasons, Paintsil emerged as a key figure for the Belgian side.
As he prepares to embark on a new chapter in his career, Paintsil is poised to become a Designated Player at LA Galaxy, a status that allows him to earn beyond the constraints of the MLS salary cap for players.
The move comes as a significant boost for LA Galaxy, who are bolstering their squad ahead of the upcoming 2024 Major League Soccer season. Despite being the most successful club in MLS history, LA Galaxy endured a challenging campaign last season, finishing 13th in the Western Conference and 26th overall.
Paintsil’s arrival is expected to inject fresh talent and dynamism into the LA Galaxy lineup as they seek to reclaim their status as title contenders in the upcoming MLS season.
