Arsenal clinched a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after a nail-biting 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Porto at the Emirates Stadium, following a 1-0 win for the hosts after extra time and a 1-1 aggregate score.

Porto initiated the first half with an attacking stance, as Evanilson posed a threat with a powerful shot, brilliantly saved by David Raya. However, Arsenal found their breakthrough through Leandro Trossard, who expertly finished a pass from Martin Odegaard to net his third UCL goal of the season.

Despite an intense second half, Arsenal’s apparent goal from Odegaard was disallowed due to a prior foul by Kai Havertz. With both teams unable to break the deadlock in regular time, the match entered extra time.

Extra time witnessed few goal-scoring opportunities, with Mehdi Taremi’s shot for Porto being the most notable. As the game ended level on aggregate, it was decided by a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

Arsenal’s flawless penalty record continued as Odegaard, Pepe, Havertz, and Rice all converted their spot-kicks. Porto’s hopes were dashed when Wendell’s penalty was saved by Raya, securing Arsenal’s quarter-final berth.

The victory marked Arsenal’s first successful penalty shootout at the Emirates Stadium in a competitive match, providing redemption after last season’s Europa League disappointment.
