Ghana’s Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance despite defeat to long-standing rivals, the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Semenyo commended the efforts of the young talents within the squad, noting their impressive performance on the field. He expressed optimism about their potential and looked forward to witnessing even stronger displays from them in upcoming matches. “The young players showed great promise today, and I believe their contributions will be beneficial as we move forward,” he remarked.

Reflecting on the match, Semenyo emphasized Ghana’s strong performance and their ability to control the game effectively against their West African counterparts. Despite the defeat, he acknowledged the team’s resilience and determination throughout the match.

Looking ahead, Semenyo stressed the importance of maintaining focus in the upcoming games, especially following the disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast. He emphasized the need for improved consistency and determination in future matches to achieve better results.

In addition to praising the youth, Semenyo also highlighted the significance of experienced players within the team. He emphasized the invaluable experience they bring, having participated in numerous AFCON tournaments and World Cup campaigns. “Having a blend of both young and experienced players is advantageous. The seasoned players provide invaluable guidance and leadership to the team,” he stated.

Semenyo also touched upon the team’s new direction, noting a shift in philosophy towards ball retention. “We approached the game with a focus on ball possession, and I believe we executed that strategy well against Nigeria,” he explained.

Despite the defeat to their arch-rivals, Semenyo expressed disappointment but remained optimistic about the team’s future prospects. He attributed the loss partly to unfortunate circumstances, such as being reduced to ten men early in the second half. However, he remained hopeful for better outcomes in upcoming matches.

Semenyo’s outstanding form at AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League this season has been noteworthy, with six goals and three assists to his credit. As Ghana prepares to face Uganda in another friendly match, Semenyo is expected to play a key role in the starting lineup, contributing his skills and experience to the team’s endeavors.
