Former Ghana international John Mensah has traded in his football boots for a new role as an evangelist, spreading the word of God to Ghanaians.

The former Black Stars captain, who retired from professional football seven years ago, has been devoting most of his time to his faith.

“I mostly spend time at the church. Having retired from the game, I think it’s time for me to also spread the word of God to others. I’m now into evangelism,” Mensah revealed.

Mensah was a key player for the Black Stars during his playing days, helping the team reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and finishing second in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. He also played a crucial role in securing Ghana’s first World Cup qualification in 2006.

The former Sunderland defender made 86 appearances and scored three goals for the Black Stars, and also represented Ghana at the U20 level, helping the team reach the finals of the 2001 FIFA U20 World Cup. At club level, Mensah played for Chievo Verona, Rennes, Lyon, Sunderland, and others.

Mensah’s transition from football to evangelism comes as a surprise to many, but he is determined to use his platform to spread the message of God’s love.
