“I’ve always wanted to represent Ghana since I was a child” – Brandon Thomas-Asante

West Bromwich Albion striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has expressed his joy and pride at making his debut for Ghana during a recent 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

The 25-year-old forward featured in Ghana’s thrilling 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in June.

Although Thomas-Asante started on the bench for Ghana’s earlier 2-1 win against Mali in Bamako, he made a decisive impact after coming on as a substitute in the 88th minute against the Central African Republic.

Reflecting on his debut, Thomas-Asante described representing Ghana as a lifelong ambition.

“I’m feeling good and it was a really good summer. It was really exciting to go away with the national team for the very first time. It’s something I’ve wanted to do forever, to represent Ghana, since I was a child,” he told West Bromwich Albion’s website.

“To be able to play with different players and get a different outlook on things was refreshing. I really enjoyed being with Ghana in the summer which was really good. I came back from international duty and had a breather, but then got back to work here pretty quickly. I couldn’t stay away for too long; I wanted to come back sooner than what my report date was.”
