The Black Stars of Ghana will play their remaining 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches in Cote d’Ivoire following a ban on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
To manage costs, Ghanaian football officials are considering alternative venues in Cote d’Ivoire, including Stade Laurent Pokou, Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny, and Stade de la Paix.
CAF’s decision to withdraw approval for Baba Yara Stadium came after evaluating its condition during the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying match between Ghana and Angola on September 5, 2024.
The stadium was deemed unsuitable for hosting Category 3 international matches due to technical issues such as uneven playing surfaces, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover.
The Baba Yara Stadium, which accommodates over 40,000 spectators, has been a venue for various high-profile matches, including World Cup qualifiers and AFCON games.
CAF officials have expressed dissatisfaction with its current state, urging Ghanaian authorities to invest in facility upgrades to meet international standards.
