Dreams FC head coach Abdul Karim Zito expressed his frustration with his team’s performance following a 2-2 draw against Heart of Lions on matchday three of the Ghana Premier League.
Zito specifically criticized goalkeeper Gidios Aseako, accusing him of trying to mimic Manchester United’s ball-playing goalkeeper, Andre Onana, which led to tactical errors.
The match, held at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Park, saw Dreams FC salvage a point through a late strike from Joseph Esso. However, Zito was far from pleased with the overall display, particularly the team’s failure to adhere to his tactical instructions.
“Seriously disappointed. We call something tactical indiscipline. In the second half, I told my goalkeeper, ‘This Onana stuff, you need to vary it and see the implications. Don’t do it if your players aren’t comfortable,'” Zito remarked in his post-match interview.
He further elaborated on his concerns about Aseako’s style of play. “What I mean is, you’re trying to play like a footballer instead of keeping it simple, and for me, that’s painful. I am very, very disappointed.”
Despite the late equalizer, the draw leaves Dreams FC winless after three matches in the new Ghana Premier League season. The team will look to secure their first victory when they travel to Bechem United for their next fixture.
