Ghana: Black Stars’ 2024 results analysed. The decline is shockingly unbelievable

Black Stars keeps retrogressing and it calls for immediate concern. After three games in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Ghana is yet to win a single game just like they failed to win any of the group games in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Yes!!! Not a single game has been won against a Grade C and F opponents in the group. Ghana also has become a grade C opponent, truth be told.

Follow the analysis and learn the level the Black Stars have reached.

Who are the Grade A teams on the continent?

Per the latest (September) FIFA rankings, the first 6 ranked teams are the Grade A teams because AFCON 2023 seeded the highly six ranked teams in Pot A and the same procedure will be used in the 2025 AFCON draw.

1. Morocco

2. Senegal

3. Egypt

4. Cote d’Ivoire

5. Tunisia

6. Nigeria

Who are the Grade B teams on the continent?

7. Algeria

8. Cameroon

9. Mali

10. DR Congo

11. South Africa

12. Burkina Faso

Who are the Grade C teams on the continent?

13. Cape Verde

14. Ghana ***

15. Guinea

16. Gabon

17. Angola

18. Benin

Ghana’s last encounter with any of the Grade A teams was the 2-2 draw against Egypt in the 2023 AFCON.

The Grade B teams, Black Stars’ last game was in Bamako against Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and Ghana won 2-1.

With the Grade Cs, Angola, the 17th ranked team on the continent won through Milson’s late strike to end Ghana’s 24 year unbeaten record at the Baba Yara Sports Stdaium.

The Black Stars will travel to Libya on Monday and face Sudan in the return leg. The East Africans can’t host any game at home because of the civil war. Ghana’s dream would have been ended had the game been played in Oumdurman because that place is dangerous for any visitor especially when Sudan needs points.

Ghana has endured a disastrous year (2024) as they have played 11 games in all competitions: International Friendlies, AFCON 2023, 2026 World Cup qualifiers and 2025 AFCON qualifiers are competitions Ghana have featured.

The Black Stars have won 2, drawn 6 and lost 3. They have scored 15 goals and conceded 16 under two different coaches.

The year got underway with Ghana under former Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United manager, Chris Houghton, drawing a disastrous goalless against Namibia at the Baba Yara Aports Stadium in Kumasi in the final preparations game for the 2023 AFCON.

In Ivory coast in the 2023 AFCON, Ghana lost its opening fixture 2-1 to Cape Verde, drew 2-2 against the much fancied Egypt and calamitously gave up a commanding two goals lead to draw 2-2 against Mozambique to exit the competition.

Chris Houghton lost his job and Otto addo was reappointed. His second coming commenced with a 2-1 defeat in a friendly game against perennial rivals Nigeria and followed by an unconvincing 2-2 draw against minnows Uganda.

Otto Addo’s first competitive game was against Mali in Bamako. The smash and grab 2-1 win breathed life into Ghana’s quaest for 5th FIFA World Cup. Four days later, Jordan Ayew’s hattrick ensured a hard fought 4-3 win over Central Africa Republic.

The qucik fire 2025 AFCON qualifiers got underway in September and Ghana has been more than disastrous considering the opponents. Angola is in Grade C just like Ghana but three places below Otto Addo’s team.

Sudan is ranked 31. It means they are in Grade F. Sudan is in F! The Falcons of Jediane sit top of the F Grade.

Niger is the 36th ranked country in Africa. They fall in Grade F! They are the last team in F.

Ghana’s decline is shockingly unbelievable because they are now failing to beat teams ranked way below them.

If Otto Addo and his men fail to beat Sudan, they will need the legendary Archimedes of Syracuse to use all the best mathematical methods and calculators to prove what and what they have to do to make it to Morocco.

A team full of Top European leagues stars’ must at least be able to deal with Angola, Nigera and Sudan.

The Black Stars will end 2024 with a home game against Niger on 15th November. They have to face two crucial away games first: a game on Monday against Sudan in Libya and a trip to Luanda to face Angola on 11th November.

The Black Stars must win in Libya to boost chances of qualifying to Morocco.
