Ghana head coach Otto Addo has expressed his disappointment following the Black Stars’ 1-0 loss to Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match.
In an interview with the GFA media team, Addo described the defeat as a “bitter pill to take” but extended his congratulations to Sudan for their hard-fought victory.
“Congratulations to Sudan. Coach Kwesi Appiah has always been a gentleman before and after the game. They did well,” Addo acknowledged. “They showed great passion, and I would like to congratulate them for their performance.”
Reflecting on Ghana’s performance, Addo admitted that the team fell short despite their efforts.
“I want to thank the team for at least trying, though we know it wasn’t good enough. We had a thorough talk after the match, and I spoke to individual players to address specific issues and moments from the game,” he explained.
The defeat took an emotional toll on the Black Stars, and Addo highlighted the somber mood within the camp.
“Everybody was down; it was a really, really hard pill to swallow,” he said.
Despite the setback, Addo remains hopeful, expressing gratitude to his technical staff for their unwavering support during challenging times.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the entire technical staff for standing by me, even now, in our toughest moments. Ghana must qualify for AFCON, and we’ll keep working toward that goal,” he affirmed.
Though disappointed by the result, Coach Otto Addo and his squad are determined to regroup and fight for their spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
