Ghanaian international Alidu Seidu has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season after sustaining a serious injury during Stade Rennais’ Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Sunday.

The defender was forced off just 17 minutes into the match after an awkward landing resulted in a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. Seidu, visibly in pain, received immediate medical attention but was unable to continue and was replaced by Mikayil Faye. Post-match images showed him on crutches, confirming the severity of the situation.

Seidu is set to undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the torn ACL. Medical scans conducted after the game confirmed the extent of the injury, and the procedure will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Stade Rennais manager Jorge Sampaoli acknowledged the seriousness of the injury during a post-match interview, stating, “I can’t diagnose; we will do tests tomorrow.” The subsequent tests confirmed the defender’s long-term absence.

Seidu’s injury is a major setback for Stade Rennais, where the 24-year-old has become a pivotal figure since joining the club in January 2024. His solid performances this season, including earning the Player of the Month award in September, have been instrumental in the team’s campaign. The defender featured in 11 matches this season, establishing himself as a key player in Sampaoli’s setup.

Seidu’s absence will also affect Ghana’s national team, as the Black Stars relied on his defensive strength in their international fixtures. His return to football is now expected to be sometime in mid-2025, following rehabilitation.
