I will choose Michael Essien over Partey in any day – Laryea Kingston

Former Ghanaian winger Laryea Kingston has ranked Michael Essien above Thomas Partey as the best midfielder, citing Essien’s exceptional accomplishments and influence during his playing career.

The debate over who is better between the two Ghanaian stars has been a popular topic in recent months. Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, Kingston acknowledged Partey’s quality but emphasized that Essien’s achievements, especially with Chelsea, set him apart.

“They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but for me, I think I was really, really privileged to play alongside Michael Essien,” Kingston said. “We all know what he did at Chelsea when they had a fantastic team, a very strong team. He was a regular in the team, playing week in, and week out. Partey has his strengths and has done very well, but for me, Michael Essien was something else.”

Essien enjoyed a stellar career, winning major trophies including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, multiple FA Cups, and League Cups. He was a key figure in a star-studded Chelsea side and also had stints with Real Madrid and AC Milan before retiring in 2020.

Partey, meanwhile, is highly regarded as one of Arsenal’s best midfielders. His accolades include a La Liga title, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup, showcasing his importance at both Atlético Madrid and Arsenal.
