“Kwesi Nyantakyi didn’t accept selfish demands from some people that’s why they forced him out” – Asamoah Gyan

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has come to the defense of ex-Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi, claiming that his removal from office was the result of sabotage and selfish agendas.

Nyantakyi lost his position as CAF 1st Vice President and FIFA Executive Council member following the 2018 Number 12 exposé, which alleged widespread corruption in Ghanaian football.

During an emotional Instagram Live session, Gyan expressed dismay over the current state of Ghana football, contrasting it with the strides made during Nyantakyi’s tenure.

“When Nyantakyi was GFA president, look at where Ghana football was. He didn’t tolerate internal conflicts or selfish agendas,” Gyan stated.

The former striker suggested that Nyantakyi’s refusal to bow to manipulative influences made him a target.

“He wasn’t the kind of person to accept selfish demands. That’s why they wanted him out. Since his removal, have you seen what has become of Ghana football?” Gyan questioned.

Gyan highlighted Nyantakyi’s accomplishments, including his rise to CAF Vice President, a role that elevated Ghana’s influence in African football. He argued that Nyantakyi’s leadership brought stability, unity, and progress to Ghana football.

“Nyantakyi was leading us somewhere. He became one of the strongest figures in African football. But because he wouldn’t tolerate their selfish interests, they sabotaged him and forced him out,” Gyan added.

Since Nyantakyi’s exit, Gyan believes Ghana football has been on a downward spiral. He accused critics of prioritizing personal interests over the sport’s development, leading to stagnation.

“People may not have agreed with everything he did, but under his leadership, Ghana football was thriving. Look at where we are now—it’s obvious where the problem lies,” Gyan concluded.
