Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has expressed his disappointment following injuries to two key players, Emmanuel Kotei and Albert Amoah, at a crucial stage of the season.
Albert Amoah, the club’s top scorer this season with seven goals, has been sidelined for two months after sustaining an ankle injury during Kotoko’s 1-1 draw against Medeama SC in Tarkwa. His absence was felt in the FA Cup victory over Acceler8z FC, and he will also miss the final match of the first round against Vision FC.
Emmanuel Kotei, on the other hand, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during training on Thursday. Subsequent medical tests have confirmed that he will miss the rest of the season.
Reacting to the setbacks, Coach Ogum shared his concerns. “It’s unpleasant news losing him and Kotei at this busy stage of the season. I initially had chills when it happened during the game because Albert is naturally a strong boy, but the shout he made during the impact left me worried. But injuries are part of the game, and we can just hope he recovers quickly, as he has shown with his previous injury,” he said.
Despite these challenges, the Porcupine Warriors are banking on the impressive form of Kwame Opoku, who has scored in three consecutive games. He will be expected to lead the attack alongside new signing Sampson Eduku as the team looks to maintain momentum.
Currently second on the Ghana Premier League table, Asante Kotoko will host league newcomers Vision FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, hoping to finish the first round of the season on a high note.
