Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku has expressed his eagerness to represent the Black Stars when the opportunity arises, with the team set to resume their FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.
Coach Otto Addo is expected to reinforce his squad with a reliable goal-scorer, as the Black Stars look to address issues in the final third, which contributed to their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Opoku, who recently rejoined Asante Kotoko on a two-and-a-half-year contract after successful stints in Algeria and Morocco, has been in sensational form. He has scored four goals in his last three matches, helping Kotoko rise to third place in the league standings with 31 points.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Opoku reflected on his past experience with the Black Stars and his ambition for the future:
“I believe that during my first time with the Black Stars, I had more to offer, but perhaps it wasn’t the right moment. Now, I am focused on improving my game, and if the chance to represent the Black Stars comes, I will be ready and willing to give my all for the national team.”
Opoku’s red-hot form for Kotoko has made him one of the most sought-after players in the league, and his desire to contribute to the Black Stars is sure to excite fans ahead of the upcoming qualifiers.
