Bayern Munich Sporting Director Christoph Freund, has extolled the qualities of promising Sweden-born striker of Ghanaian descent Jonah Kusi-Asare.
“Jonah Kusi-Asare is a young striker with enormous potential. He has all the attributes: he’s technically strong, fast, tall, very robust for his age and an excellent finisher. We’re very pleased that he’ll be playing for FC Bayern in the future.” – Christoph Freund, stated.
Kusi-Asare has been an unused Bayern substitute three times during the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, having signed a long-term deal with the club in February 2024. The plan was that he would initially play for the U19s, but three goals and an assist in six appearances quickly propelled him into the Bayern reserve team picture before those first-team tasters in the top flight.
Pre-Bayern, Kusi-Asare made history AIK’s youngest-ever player, having debuted for the club in Sweden’s top tier one month and 24 days after turning 16. The 6’4″ striker made four appearances in the Allsvenskan in 2023, the year he was promoted from the Sweden U16s to 17s. He made his debut in a UEFA Euro U17 qualifier against Moldova, marking the occasion with a hat-trick.
“He’s extraordinary. He’s good at everything: strong, technical, can score from nothing, good in the air. It feels like he does what he wants. He has a great future, and is only going to get better.” – George Mousally, Kusi-Asare’s former U17s coach at AIK Solna.
He was appeared as unused on Tuesday night in Bayern’s UEFA Champions League 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan.
