Hearts of Oak’s Public Relations Officer, Opare Addo, has revealed that the club’s decision to extend goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s contract was purely based on his outstanding performances for both club and country.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper has signed a new deal that will keep him with the Phobians until 2027. Despite attracting attention from Moroccan powerhouse Raja Casablanca and three unnamed French clubs, Asare chose to stay with the Ghanaian giants.

The contract extension was officially confirmed on Thursday, April 10, after what the club described as “fruitful discussions” with its Board of Directors.

“Everything that he brings on board as a goalkeeper made it very necessary for us to engage him for a contract extension,” Addo told Asempa FM.

Since joining Hearts of Oak from Great Olympics in early 2024, Asare has quickly become one of the standout performers in the Ghana Premier League. His consistency and leadership at the back have played a key role in the team’s progress.

Asare’s reputation has also soared at the international level. He made an impressive debut for the Black Stars in a 5-0 win over Chad, followed by another clean sheet against Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

These strong displays have earned him the nod as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper, ahead of Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott, according to head coach Otto Addo.

With his future now secured, Asare remains a vital piece in Hearts of Oak’s ambitions moving forward.
