Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana was the hero on Monday night as Atalanta booked their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a thrilling 2-1 win over AS Roma.
The match started with great energy. Ademola Lookman gave Atalanta the perfect start by scoring in the 9th minute. But AS Roma fought back, and Bryan Cristante scored an equalizer for the visitors.
In the second half, Sulemana was brought on in the 68th minute, replacing Marco Pasalic. Just eight minutes after coming on, he made a huge impact. The 21-year-old unleashed a powerful shot—often called a “pile driver”—which flew past the Roma goalkeeper and into the net.
That goal proved to be the match-winner and confirmed Atalanta’s spot in the Champions League for the coming season. It was a proud moment for the young Ghanaian, who continues to rise in European football.
