Hearts of Oak handed Berekum Chelsea their first home defeat in ten games with a crucial 1-0 victory at the Golden City Park on Sunday in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 31 clash.
The match-winner came in the 56th minute courtesy of Mawuli Wayo, whose composed low finish punished a rare defensive lapse from Chelsea to secure all three points for the Phobians.
The first half was a tight and tactical affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. Chelsea, known for their defensive solidity at home, held their ground but were met with a compact and resolute Hearts midfield.
After the restart, Hearts came out with more urgency and found their breakthrough just past the 55-minute mark. Wayo latched onto a loose ball and fired past the goalkeeper to silence the home crowd.
The result marked Hearts’ third straight victory over their former coach Samuel Boadu, now in charge of Berekum Chelsea, and extended the Phobians’ unbeaten streak against the Blues to ten matches, with Chelsea’s last win dating back to 2019.
While the defeat hampers Chelsea’s bid for a top-four finish, Hearts of Oak strengthened their position in the top half of the table as the season enters its final stretch.
