Ghanaian midfielder Francis Abu has reached a significant milestone in his career, making his 100th appearance for Belgian side Cercle Brugge while playing a key role in preserving the club’s topflight status.
Abu came off the bench during Cercle Brugge’s decisive Second Division play-off clash against Patro Eisden, replacing Hannes Van der Bruggen on the hour mark. The Green and Black went on to claim a comfortable 3-1 victory, sealing an 8-2 aggregate win and confirming their place in the Belgian Pro League for next season.
The 24-year-old has been an integral part of Cercle Brugge since joining from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland in 2022. His consistent performances have helped the team grow in stature, including qualifying for European competition last season.
In the current campaign, Abu has featured in 49 matches across all competitions, contributing one goal and four assists. His versatility and work rate have earned him praise both locally and internationally.
The talented midfielder is also expected to be named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London, where the Black Stars will be in action next week.
