Spanish international with Ghanaian roots, Nico Williams, has thrown his full support behind his older brother, Inaki Williams, following his recent appointment as the new captain of Athletic Club.
Inaki, 31, was handed the armband in May 2025 after veteran Óscar De Marcos stepped down, marking a new chapter for the Basque side.
Speaking shortly after renewing his contract with Athletic Club, Nico expressed his admiration for his brother, describing him as the ideal leader for the team.
“We’ve always dreamed of this. Inaki is a role model—not just for me, but for everyone,” Nico said, as published on the club’s official website. “I believe he’s the perfect person to wear the captain’s armband, and I’m excited to see him lead the team for many years.”
Nico Williams recently signed a long-term deal that will keep him at San Mamés until 2035, a decision he says was inspired by the love and support of the fans.
“I want to give everything back to this club and the supporters who’ve always stood by me,” he added. “I hope they continue to enjoy watching me play, because this commitment is also for them. I’ve always felt their love and I’m proud to call them my fans.”
The Williams brothers remain central figures in Athletic Club’s ambitions as they aim for success in La Liga and beyond.
