Croatian top-flight side HNK Rijeka have completed the signing of English-born Ghanaian striker Daniel Adu-Adjei from AFC Bournemouth in a deal worth £1.2 million. The 19-year-old will travel to Croatia on Monday to undergo his medical before finalising a long-term contract.

A product of Bournemouth’s academy, Adu-Adjei impressed during a short loan spell at Carlisle United last season, where he scored twice and provided two assists in 17 appearances. Despite his potential, opportunities in Andoni Iraola’s first team looked limited, prompting the young forward and his representatives to pursue a move abroad for more regular football.

Adu-Adjei featured for Bournemouth in the 2024 Premier League Summer Series in the United States, even finding the net in a 3-0 win over Everton. However, fierce competition for attacking roles in the Cherries’ squad made a permanent switch inevitable.

HNK Rijeka, one of Croatia’s most competitive clubs with regular appearances in European competitions, offers Adu-Adjei the chance to accelerate his development while gaining valuable exposure at a high level.

The teenager, who is eligible to represent both Ghana and England at international level, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest emerging forwards. His move to Rijeka is seen as an important step toward establishing himself as a consistent first-team player.
